GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, KEONJHAR stands in pride and honour imparting the true colours of learning and wisdom. Having its footsteps in one of the oldest Technical Institute, the Orissa School of Mining Engineering, Keonjhar (OSME), it is only the Government College providing Engineering and Technical education in North Odisha. Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar (GCE, Keonjhar) was established in year 1995, having Mining Engineering as the only branch and subsequently in year 1997 two more branches were added to the curriculum i.e Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
In the year 2006, the Government of Odisha declared it as a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha under self-sustaining mode to develop it as a centre of excellence in the field of Engineering & Technology. To make its domain more wider and cater to steel and iron industries which have recently come up near keonjhar, two more branches were added namely Mineral Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering in the year 2008 and 2009 respectively.
GCE Keonjhar has been marked as an institute of national importance and the only Government College in the state of Odisha offering B.Tech in Mining Engineering and Mineral Engineering. Government of Odisha declared it as a full- fledged Government Engineering College in the Year 2011 observing its rising excellence and potentiality in growth.
The Technology is changing the world and it becomes a challenging task to cater the needs of the industry. Hence, GCE- KEONJHAR has been moving forward on the paths that don’t compromise any effort to satisfy the student’s interest. In the year 2015, Computer Science & Engineering and Civil Engineering were added to the curriculum to facilitate the rapid infrastructural growth of the country and to fulfill the demands of the software industries.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF CSE

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at G.C.E,Keonjhar was established in 2015 and is renowned for imparting state of the art undergraduate education and preparing its students for solving real world challenges. Computer Science is the systematic study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and of practical techniques for their implementation and application in computer systems. Computer scientists invent algorithmic processes that create, describe, and transform information and formulate suitable abstractions to model complex systems. The study is devoted to theoretical foundations of computation and practical techniques for their implementation in computer systems. On the other hand, Computer Engineering has its roots in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It deals with the study of interaction of various devices among themselves and with the computer. Loosely, Computer Science focuses on software, and Computer Engineering emphasizes hardware. However, there exists a significant overlap between them. In its entirety, Computer Science and Engineering can be conceived as the two sides of the same coin, where each side complements the other. Apart from the regular courses, the department also conducts workshops, training programs and conferences to provide best technical skills and software engineering ethics.
We attract the brightest students from the country who score very high ranks in the JEE-Main, arguably the best entrance exam for any academic institution.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF EEE

The Department of Electrical Engineering started in the year 1997.The 4-year B.Tech course study includes fundamentals of Electrical Engineering embedded with Electrical Machines, Power System, Power Electronics, Control, Electronics, Communication, Signal processing and Artificial Intelligence. In the lower semesters, basic courses such as basic electrical engineering, Circuit analysis are offered for building the foundation blocks. In the higher semesters advance courses such as advanced control system, advanced power system (FACTs, HVDC, Power Quality, Protection and transients), soft computing (Neural Network, Fuzzy Logic, genetic algorithmic. ), Signal Processing, Power Electronics and applications are offered. Apart from the subject course curriculum, the Department stress upon B.Tech projects on advanced research areas covering control systems, power systems and optimization, Power Electronics and Drives, Communication, soft computing and signal processing applications to power, control and communications, distributed generations, economics in power systems and related areas. Both simulation and experimental based projects are encouraged to create a research ambience among the undergraduate student community
The students of Electrical Engineering undertake project work focused on latest development in core and associated electrical domain such as electric drives, static controllers, power system operation and control, VAR compensation, optimization technique applied to electrical system ,microprocessor and microcontroller based system, PLC based system and some software related field. The students are exposed to industrial environment during their summer training after 2nd and 3rd year in various reputed organizations like RSP, NALCO, HAL, NTPC, TTPS, GRIDCO, OHPC, OPTCL etc.
